Marble looks wonderful, but it can stain from acids like lemon juice. Many buyers use it for floors, walls and bathrooms, and use granite for kitchen tops.

Marble: the stone of palaces and modern homes

Marble: the stone of palaces and modern homes

Marble is a metamorphic stone formed when limestone is changed by heat and pressure. Its crystals reflect light softly, and its veins give every slab a unique pattern. India has used marble for centuries, and the most famous example is the Taj Mahal, built with white marble from the Makrana area of Rajasthan. Natural Stone Cart is a marble exporter and Indian marble supplier that supplies marble blocks, polished slabs and flooring tiles to importers, hotels, builders and designers.

If you are searching for a marble exporter from India, a white marble supplier or a source for Indian marble blocks and slabs, this guide explains the main varieties and how to choose.

Our own quarry: white, green and pink marble

Marble is an eco-friendly and cost-effective alternative to expensive granite for many projects. We have ample infrastructure for quarrying, processing and warehousing of Indian marble. Our own quarry of white, green and pink marble, together with an equipped processing unit, helps us offer very competitive prices. We export polished and unpolished marble, in blocks, slabs and cut-to-size tiles, to meet the needs of clients in overseas markets.

Where Indian marble comes from

Rajasthan is the centre of the Indian marble industry. Government mineral reports identify key zones such as Makrana–Kishangarh, Udaipur–Rajsamand–Chittorgarh, Banswara–Dungarpur, the Jaipur–Alwar belt and Jaisalmer. Makrana is best known for pure white crystalline marble, and the area also gives varieties such as Albeta and Dongri. Kishangarh is a major trading and processing hub for marble. Around Udaipur and Rajsamand, off-white and greyish-white marbles are mined in large volume.

The deep green stone from the Rikhabdeo area, about 60 km from Udaipur, is widely sold as Indian green marble, although geologists describe much of it as serpentine. It shows green shades with white and black veining. Because we are based in Udaipur, we know these varieties well and can guide you on colour, quality and price.

Popular marble colours and their uses

  • White marble: bright floors, walls, bathrooms and luxury interiors.
  • Beige and cream marble: warm, calm lobbies and living rooms.
  • Green marble: dramatic feature walls, bars and table tops.
  • Black and dark marble: contrast floors, vanities and borders.
  • Pink and multicolour marble: decorative pieces and inlay work.

Marble is best for dry indoor areas. It is softer than granite, so it can scratch and can be etched by acids such as lemon, vinegar or some cleaners. Many designers use marble for floors, walls, stairs and bathroom surfaces, and choose granite or quartzite for the kitchen worktop.

Marble products we export

We export marble blocks for overseas factories, polished marble slabs, marble flooring tiles in standard and custom sizes, cut-to-size pieces, steps and risers, skirtings, sills and decorative items. Slabs are available in 18–20 mm and 30 mm thickness. Finishes include polished, honed, brushed and antique. You can order a single stone or mix several in one container.

For large projects, we can prepare book-matched slabs, where two neighbouring slabs are opened like a book to create a mirror pattern. This is popular for feature walls and hotel lobbies.

Choosing the right finish

Polished marble gives a bright, reflective surface and shows the veins at their best. Honed marble is smooth and matte, with less glare and a more modern, quiet look. Brushed or antique marble has a lightly textured, aged feel that hides small scratches. For floors with heavy traffic or in wet rooms, honed or brushed finishes are usually safer and easier to live with than a high gloss.

Always ask your installer to seal marble properly after installation. A good sealer reduces staining and keeps maintenance simple.

Shipping marble safely

Marble needs careful packing because it is more delicate than granite. Slabs are placed face to face with protection between them, bundled in strong frames made of treated timber and secured inside the container. Tiles are packed in cartons or crates with spacers. Blocks are loaded so they cannot move at sea. We ship from Mundra and Kandla and share loading photos with you.

In customs, crude or roughly trimmed marble blocks fall under HS heading 2515 and worked marble under 6802 in most systems; your broker will confirm the exact code and duty.

Care and maintenance

Marble is softer than granite, so seal it after installation, wipe spills quickly and avoid acidic cleaners. As with any natural stone, use soft cloths, mild cleaners made for stone and clean up spills quickly. Avoid strong acids and harsh abrasive pads. For floors, use mats at entrances to catch grit, and protect the surface under heavy furniture.

We give simple care instructions you can share with your own customers. Good care keeps the stone looking fresh for decades, which is why natural stone is considered a long-term investment in a building.

Start with a trial order and grow from there

If you are new to importing marble from India, we suggest a simple plan. First, tell us what sells in your market. Second, review photos and approve samples. Third, place a trial container with a mix of colours or sizes. Fourth, after you receive the stone and see how your customers react, plan repeat orders and volume contracts.

Many of our long-term customers began with one mixed container. We keep your preferred selection and packing details on file, so repeat orders are faster, and we keep you updated if a colour or size changes.

What affects the price of marble

Buyers often ask for one simple price, but the price of marble depends on several things. The stone variety and its rarity matter most, because some colours come from small quarries and cost more. Thickness, size and surface finish change the cost, since thicker and larger pieces need more material and more careful handling. Calibration, meaning how exact the thickness and size are, also adds work. Selection grade matters too: a premium selection with very even colour costs more than a mixed commercial selection. Quantity helps, because bigger orders spread packing and loading costs. Finally freight terms (FOB or CIF), the destination port and the exchange rate affect the final number.

Marble is dense and more delicate than granite, so we use extra protection between slabs and plan loads by weight. To get a fair comparison between suppliers, always ask for quotes on the same stone, size, thickness, finish and terms. We write all of these clearly in our quotation, so you can compare line by line.
