Granite blocks: the raw material of the stone industry
Granite blocks: the raw material of the stone industry
A granite block is a large rectangular piece of stone cut directly from the quarry. Stone factories around the world buy blocks and cut them into slabs on gangsaw or wire machines, then polish and sell them. Buying blocks gives a factory full control over slab thickness, finish and yield, and it is often the best option for processors who have their own cutting and polishing lines. Natural Stone Cart is a granite blocks exporter in India that supplies selected quarry blocks to processors, traders and manufacturers overseas.
If you are searching for a granite block supplier in India, a granite quarry partner, or a natural stone quarry owner you can deal with directly, this page explains what to check and how we work.
Quarry owner: blocks supplied by the ton or by cbm
Infinity Exim Ventures is a quarry owner, processor, supplier and exporter of natural stone. We extract marble and granite in North India in the form of blocks and also work with South Indian granite sources. Blocks are available in various colours for further processing by gangsaw and chainsaw machines.
We provide stone blocks in the sizes you need, with internationally accepted quality. We have the capacity to supply break-bulk shipments regularly at competitive prices on a per ton or per cbm basis, as well as container shipments for smaller programmes. Tell us your preferred method and we will quote accordingly.
Where Indian granite blocks come from
The best-known granite belts are in South India. Black Galaxy is associated with the Ongole area in Andhra Pradesh, Absolute Black comes from quarries in Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, and Tan Brown and several reds and greys come from Tamil Nadu and neighbouring regions. Rajasthan and Gujarat also produce granites. Because each quarry has its own colour, grain and strength, we work with several sources so we can match your colour and size need.
We select blocks at the quarry face, not from a trader’s yard, and we share block photos and short videos so you can approve before we load.
How blocks are graded
Good block selection protects your profit. We look at:
- Colour and shade: even colour from one end to the other.
- Cracks and hairlines: blocks with open cracks lose yield after cutting.
- Natural spots, veins and patches: acceptable or not depends on your market.
- Size: length, width and height so that your saw can cut efficiently.
- Squareness: well-squared blocks cut more slabs.
We discuss grading with you in advance. If you work with specific rules, for example maximum veins or minimum dimensions, send them and we will select to match.
Block sizes and tolerances
Blocks come in different sizes depending on the quarry and the machine used to cut them. Many factories ask for blocks with a minimum height and length that fit their gangsaw, plus a fixed range of weight so that the cranes at both ports can handle them. Tell us the dimensions your machines accept and the weight range your port allows, and we will propose blocks that fit. Because granite is dense, the weight of a block is high, so a 20ft container often holds only a few blocks. We plan this carefully to avoid overweight problems at the port or on the road.
Dimensions are usually measured as gross size in centimetres, and net size after trimming can be discussed. Always write down your agreed measuring method in the order to avoid arguments later.
Loading and shipping blocks safely
Blocks must be placed so they cannot move at sea. We use timber supports and secure each block inside the container, and we take photos during loading. Blocks usually ship in 20ft containers because of weight, and we can also arrange break-bulk for very large orders. We ship from Mundra and Kandla ports in Gujarat.
For customs, raw or roughly trimmed granite is generally classified under HS heading 2516, but your customs broker will confirm the exact code and duty. We prepare the commercial invoice, packing list, bill of lading and any certificate of origin you need.
Why work with us for blocks
- Direct quarry sourcing without layers of middlemen.
- Real photos and videos before you approve.
- Clear communication on grading, size and weight.
- Support for third-party inspection before loading.
- Mixed orders: blocks together with slabs, tiles or paving.
We also supply polished slabs and tiles if you want to buy finished products for part of your demand and cut blocks for the rest.
Request a quote for granite blocks
Send your preferred colour or a photo, block size range, monthly quantity and destination port. We reply within 24 hours with availability, photos and a shipping plan. If you are building a long-term relationship with an Indian granite quarry supplier, tell us your yearly volume so we can plan stock for you. Samples, photos and approval before you order
Natural stone changes from one lot to another, so we never ask you to buy without seeing it. For granite blocks, we send real photos and short videos of the stone you will receive, and we can courier a small sample so you can check colour, pattern and finish in your own light. Samples work best when they come from the same lot as your order, so please tell us if you want the sample and the container to match closely.
When you approve a sample, we keep a reference piece. If your order is large, we can send bundle photos before loading, or arrange third-party inspection. This simple process protects you from surprises and protects our relationship with you. Ask us for samples on our request samples page.
Planning your container and shipment
A good load plan saves money. A standard 20ft container can usually carry roughly 25 to 28 tonnes, but the exact limit depends on the shipping line and on road and port rules in your country. Granite is very dense, so weight, not space, usually decides how much fits in a container. We calculate the load by weight and by size, so you do not pay for space you cannot use. Mixed containers are possible: you can combine different stones, sizes or products, which helps wholesale buyers keep stock varied.
We ship from the ports of Mundra and Kandla in Gujarat to ports around the world, and we share photos of the loading so you can see how your stone is secured. Sea freight time depends on the route and the shipping line, and we give you an expected time with each quote.
