Request natural stone samples from India

Request natural stone samples from India

Samples are the safest first step when you buy natural stone from another country. A photo shows the general look, but a sample shows the true colour, the pattern and the finish in your own light. Natural Stone Cart can send small samples of granite, marble, sandstone, limestone, slate, quartzite and basalt, and we can show onyx slabs by photo and video.

This page explains how sample requests work and how to get the most from them.

What a sample shows

A sample helps you check colour in daylight and artificial light, how the pattern looks up close, how the finish feels and how the stone reacts to water. Test a sample at home or at the project site: wet it, scratch it gently, and put it next to your other materials, such as cabinets and floors.

How to request

Tell us the stone or colour, the finish, the sample size you prefer and your delivery address. We confirm availability, sample terms and courier cost, then send the sample with a reference. Samples are cut from the same lot you will receive wherever possible.

Sample sets for designers and yards

For designers and stone yards we can prepare sample sets with several colours and finishes. These help you show customers the choices and speed up decisions. Tell us your market and we will recommend colours that sell well.

After you approve

When you approve a sample, we note the reference. We then quote the full order and plan the container. For large projects we send bundle photos and can arrange third-party inspection before loading.

Natural variation reminder

Natural stone changes from lot to lot. The sample is a guide, and the final order will be similar but not identical. We will tell you what range of variation to expect in the stone you choose.

What affects the price of natural stone samples

Buyers often ask for one simple price, but the price of natural stone samples depends on several things. The stone variety and its rarity matter most, because some colours come from small quarries and cost more. Thickness, size and surface finish change the cost, since thicker and larger pieces need more material and more careful handling. Calibration, meaning how exact the thickness and size are, also adds work. Selection grade matters too: a premium selection with very even colour costs more than a mixed commercial selection. Quantity helps, because bigger orders spread packing and loading costs. Finally freight terms (FOB or CIF), the destination port and the exchange rate affect the final number.

Natural stone is heavy, so weight, not space, usually decides how much fits in a container. To get a fair comparison between suppliers, always ask for quotes on the same stone, size, thickness, finish and terms. We write all of these clearly in our quotation, so you can compare line by line.

Samples, photos and approval before you order

Natural stone changes from one lot to another, so we never ask you to buy without seeing it. For natural stone samples, we send real photos and short videos of the stone you will receive, and we can courier a small sample so you can check colour, pattern and finish in your own light. Samples work best when they come from the same lot as your order, so please tell us if you want the sample and the container to match closely.

When you approve a sample, we keep a reference piece. If your order is large, we can send bundle photos before loading, or arrange third-party inspection. This simple process protects you from surprises and protects our relationship with you. Ask us for samples on our request samples page.

Planning your container and shipment

A good load plan saves money. A standard 20ft container can usually carry roughly 25 to 28 tonnes, but the exact limit depends on the shipping line and on road and port rules in your country. Natural stone is heavy, so weight, not space, usually decides how much fits in a container. We calculate the load by weight and by size, so you do not pay for space you cannot use. Mixed containers are possible: you can combine different stones, sizes or products, which helps wholesale buyers keep stock varied.

We ship from the ports of Mundra and Kandla in Gujarat to ports around the world, and we share photos of the loading so you can see how your stone is secured. Sea freight time depends on the route and the shipping line, and we give you an expected time with each quote.

Export documents and customs for natural stone samples

Clear paperwork keeps your container moving. For every shipment we prepare the commercial invoice, packing list and bill of lading, and where your country needs it, a certificate of origin and other documents. Packing wood is treated for export, and we can supply the treatment details if your port requires them. Natural stone is generally classified under HS headings 2515, 2516, 6801, 6802 and 6803, depending on the stone and the product; your broker will confirm.

Customs rules and duty rates differ by country, so please confirm the exact classification and duty with your customs broker or the official tariff of your country. If you tell us your port and clearing agent, we will send documents in the format they prefer, and we are happy to answer their questions directly.

Quality control, inspection and claims

Before packing natural stone samples, our team checks size, thickness, surface, colour and edges. We separate pieces that do not meet the agreed standard, and we explain what is natural variation and what is a defect. You are welcome to arrange third-party inspection before loading, and we cooperate fully with inspectors.

If a problem is found when the container arrives, tell us quickly and send photos of the packing, the damaged pieces and the container condition. We look at each case fairly and work with you on a solution. Good packing, honest photos and clear agreements keep claims rare.
