Quick answers: planning an import
First, decide the product and the market you sell to. Second, ask for photos, samples and prices. Third, confirm the specification in writing: stone, size, thickness, finish, quantity, packing and terms. Fourth, arrange inspection if you want it. Fifth, agree shipping terms and payment. Sixth, prepare customs with your broker, using the documents we supply. Finally, check the goods when they arrive.
Understanding customs codes
Natural stone is generally classified in two chapters of the Harmonized System. Chapter 25 covers crude or roughly trimmed stone: marble and travertine blocks under 2515, and granite, sandstone and other monumental stone under 2516. Chapter 68 covers worked stone: setts, kerbs and flagstones under 6801, worked monumental or building stone under 6802 and worked slate under 6803. Your broker will confirm the exact subheading and duty for your country.
Understanding container weight
Natural stone is heavy. A standard 20ft container can usually carry roughly 25 to 28 tonnes, but road and port rules in your country can set a lower limit. For granite and marble, weight, not volume, decides how much you can load. We always plan loads by weight and share the plan with you.

Care and maintenance
Natural stone is easy to look after with soft cloths and mild cleaners. As with any natural stone, use soft cloths, mild cleaners made for stone and clean up spills quickly. Avoid strong acids and harsh abrasive pads. For floors, use mats at entrances to catch grit, and protect the surface under heavy furniture.
We give simple care instructions you can share with your own customers. Good care keeps the stone looking fresh for decades, which is why natural stone is considered a long-term investment in a building.
Start with a trial order and grow from there
If you are new to importing natural stone from India, we suggest a simple plan. First, tell us what sells in your market. Second, review photos and approve samples. Third, place a trial container with a mix of colours or sizes. Fourth, after you receive the stone and see how your customers react, plan repeat orders and volume contracts.
Many of our long-term customers began with one mixed container. We keep your preferred selection and packing details on file, so repeat orders are faster, and we keep you updated if a colour or size changes.

What affects the price of natural stone
Buyers often ask for one simple price, but the price of natural stone depends on several things. The stone variety and its rarity matter most, because some colours come from small quarries and cost more. Thickness, size and surface finish change the cost, since thicker and larger pieces need more material and more careful handling. Calibration, meaning how exact the thickness and size are, also adds work. Selection grade matters too: a premium selection with very even colour costs more than a mixed commercial selection. Quantity helps, because bigger orders spread packing and loading costs. Finally freight terms (FOB or CIF), the destination port and the exchange rate affect the final number.
Natural stone is heavy, so weight, not space, usually decides how much fits in a container. To get a fair comparison between suppliers, always ask for quotes on the same stone, size, thickness, finish and terms. We write all of these clearly in our quotation, so you can compare line by line.
Samples, photos and approval before you order
Natural stone changes from one lot to another, so we never ask you to buy without seeing it. For natural stone, we send real photos and short videos of the stone you will receive, and we can courier a small sample so you can check colour, pattern and finish in your own light. Samples work best when they come from the same lot as your order, so please tell us if you want the sample and the container to match closely.
When you approve a sample, we keep a reference piece. If your order is large, we can send bundle photos before loading, or arrange third-party inspection. This simple process protects you from surprises and protects our relationship with you. Ask us for samples on our request samples page.
