Polished
Shiny like a mirror. It shows the colour of the stone at its deepest. Best for indoor floors, walls and kitchen tops.
Honed
Smooth but not shiny, a soft matte look. Good for floors and bathrooms where you want less glare.
Flamed
The surface is heated, which makes it rough. It gives a great grip, so it is perfect for outdoor floors, steps and pool areas.
Brushed
A soft, lightly textured surface with an aged look. Nice for patios and classic designs.
Leathered
A gentle, textured surface that feels like leather. Hides marks well, so it is popular for countertops.
Natural or riven
The stone is split, not cut, so it keeps a natural uneven surface. This is common for sandstone paving and wall cladding.
