Natural stone applications: choose the right stone for each space
Natural stone applications: choose the right stone for each space
Natural stone has a place in almost every part of a building and landscape. The trick is to match the stone to the job. Hard stones such as granite and quartzite suit areas with heavy wear and heat. Softer, elegant stones such as marble and onyx suit dry indoor areas. Textured stones such as sandstone and slate suit outdoor paving and cladding. This guide shows how to choose stone for countertops, flooring, bathrooms, stairs, paving, cladding and landscaping.
Kitchen countertops
For kitchens, granite is the leading choice because it resists heat, scratches and daily wear. Quartzite is even harder and has a flowing, marble-like pattern. Black and dark granites hide marks well, while lighter granites brighten the room. Choose polished for a mirror shine, honed or leathered for a soft look that hides fingerprints. We make countertops to your drawing, with edges and cut-outs.
Flooring
Granite floors are tough and perfect for busy commercial areas. Marble floors are elegant for living rooms, lobbies and bedrooms. Limestone and Kota stone give calm, even floors for offices and homes. Slate floors have a rustic texture for bathrooms and kitchens. Sandstone tiles suit patios and terraces. Always match the finish to the area, using textured finishes where floors can get wet.
Bathrooms and wet areas
For bathrooms, honed marble, slate, limestone and honed granite work well. Use textured or honed finishes on floors to prevent slipping, and seal natural stone to reduce staining. Marble vanity tops look luxurious but can etch with acids, so granite or quartzite may be a better choice if you expect heavy use.
Stairs and steps
Stairs need hard, slip-resistant stone. Granite with flamed or brushed finish is excellent outdoors. Marble stairs look grand indoors with honed or brushed finish. Sandstone steps give a natural garden feel. We cut treads, risers and landings to size and label them.
Paving and landscaping
Sandstone, granite, basalt and limestone are the main paving stones. Choose calibrated paving for fast, neat laying, and riven or flamed finishes for grip. Cobbles and setts add classic charm to drives and paths, and pebbles decorate borders and water features. Add kerbs and steps in matching stone.
Wall cladding and feature walls
Cladding in sandstone, slate and quartzite adds depth and texture. Stack stone panels are easy to install, and stone veneer is ideal for curved or lightweight applications. Onyx and polished marble create dramatic indoor feature walls, especially with backlighting.
Care and maintenance
Natural stone is easy to look after with soft cloths and mild cleaners. As with any natural stone, use soft cloths, mild cleaners made for stone and clean up spills quickly. Avoid strong acids and harsh abrasive pads. For floors, use mats at entrances to catch grit, and protect the surface under heavy furniture.
We give simple care instructions you can share with your own customers. Good care keeps the stone looking fresh for decades, which is why natural stone is considered a long-term investment in a building.
Start with a trial order and grow from there
If you are new to importing natural stone from India, we suggest a simple plan. First, tell us what sells in your market. Second, review photos and approve samples. Third, place a trial container with a mix of colours or sizes. Fourth, after you receive the stone and see how your customers react, plan repeat orders and volume contracts.
Many of our long-term customers began with one mixed container. We keep your preferred selection and packing details on file, so repeat orders are faster, and we keep you updated if a colour or size changes.

What affects the price of natural stone
Buyers often ask for one simple price, but the price of natural stone depends on several things. The stone variety and its rarity matter most, because some colours come from small quarries and cost more. Thickness, size and surface finish change the cost, since thicker and larger pieces need more material and more careful handling. Calibration, meaning how exact the thickness and size are, also adds work. Selection grade matters too: a premium selection with very even colour costs more than a mixed commercial selection. Quantity helps, because bigger orders spread packing and loading costs. Finally freight terms (FOB or CIF), the destination port and the exchange rate affect the final number.
Natural stone is heavy, so weight, not space, usually decides how much fits in a container. To get a fair comparison between suppliers, always ask for quotes on the same stone, size, thickness, finish and terms. We write all of these clearly in our quotation, so you can compare line by line.
Samples, photos and approval before you order
Natural stone changes from one lot to another, so we never ask you to buy without seeing it. For natural stone, we send real photos and short videos of the stone you will receive, and we can courier a small sample so you can check colour, pattern and finish in your own light. Samples work best when they come from the same lot as your order, so please tell us if you want the sample and the container to match closely.
When you approve a sample, we keep a reference piece. If your order is large, we can send bundle photos before loading, or arrange third-party inspection. This simple process protects you from surprises and protects our relationship with you. Ask us for samples on our request samples page.
Planning your container and shipment
A good load plan saves money. A standard 20ft container can usually carry roughly 25 to 28 tonnes, but the exact limit depends on the shipping line and on road and port rules in your country. Natural stone is heavy, so weight, not space, usually decides how much fits in a container. We calculate the load by weight and by size, so you do not pay for space you cannot use. Mixed containers are possible: you can combine different stones, sizes or products, which helps wholesale buyers keep stock varied.
We ship from the ports of Mundra and Kandla in Gujarat to ports around the world, and we share photos of the loading so you can see how your stone is secured. Sea freight time depends on the route and the shipping line, and we give you an expected time with each quote.
