Indian black granite: a timeless favourite

Indian black granite: a timeless favourite

Black granite has a strong, elegant look. It makes cabinets, tiles and decor stand out, and it hides daily wear very well. India produces many black granites, from pure jet black to black with golden or silver sparkles. Natural Stone Cart is a black granite exporter in India supplying slabs, tiles, countertops, monument stone and paving to buyers worldwide.

If you are searching for Indian black granite, black granite slabs from India or black granite wholesale, this page explains the main types and how to choose.

Types of Indian black granite

Black Galaxy is a dense black granite with tiny golden specks and is closely associated with the Ongole area in Andhra Pradesh. It is very popular for kitchen countertops because the sparkle hides small marks. Absolute Black is a name used for black granites with a very even, deep colour. Trade sources list quarries in Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, and the exact character differs a little between quarries; for example, material from some areas shows fine silver flecks.

Other black and near-black stones include Black Pearl, Premium Black, Jet Black and dark grey granites. Because names vary between dealers, we always send photos and samples of the exact lot.

Why black granite is used so widely

  • Colour that does not fade in sunlight.
  • Very hard and scratch resistant.
  • Handles heat and everyday kitchen use.
  • Takes a high polish, giving deep gloss.
  • Matches almost every cabinet and floor colour.

In monuments and memorials, black granite is chosen for its permanence and the clarity of engraving. In architecture it is used for facades, plinths, steps and feature walls.

Uses of black granite

Black granite is a good choice for kitchen countertops, bathroom vanities, floors, stair treads, wall cladding, fireplaces, outdoor steps (flamed finish), monuments, table tops and landscape features. It pairs well with white marble for dramatic contrast, with timber for warmth and with metal fittings for a modern look.

For outdoor flooring, choose flamed or brushed finish for a safer grip. For kitchens, polished or leathered are popular.

Finishes for black granite

Polished black granite is glossy and deep. Honed black granite is matte and shows fewer fingerprints. Leathered black granite has a soft texture and hides marks. Flamed black granite becomes greyer and rougher, ideal for outdoor use. Each finish changes the shade a little, so ask for a sample in the finish you plan to use.

Black granite sometimes shows water spots or smears on polished surfaces; a simple wipe with a soft cloth fixes this.

How we supply black granite

We offer black granite as blocks, gangsaw slabs, cutter slabs, tiles, countertops and cut-to-size pieces. Slabs usually come in 20 mm and 30 mm. We check colour consistency within the bundle and across the container. Packing uses treated wooden frames and strong bundles, with careful loading at Mundra and Kandla.

Black granite is heavy, so we plan container weight carefully; a 20ft container usually carries roughly 25 to 28 tonnes subject to port and road limits.

Export documents and customs for Indian black granite

Clear paperwork keeps your container moving. For every shipment we prepare the commercial invoice, packing list and bill of lading, and where your country needs it, a certificate of origin and other documents. Packing wood is treated for export, and we can supply the treatment details if your port requires them. Crude or roughly trimmed granite is generally classified under HS heading 2516, and worked granite under 6802.

Customs rules and duty rates differ by country, so please confirm the exact classification and duty with your customs broker or the official tariff of your country. If you tell us your port and clearing agent, we will send documents in the format they prefer, and we are happy to answer their questions directly.

Quality control, inspection and claims

Before packing Indian black granite, our team checks size, thickness, surface, colour and edges. We separate pieces that do not meet the agreed standard, and we explain what is natural variation and what is a defect. You are welcome to arrange third-party inspection before loading, and we cooperate fully with inspectors.

If a problem is found when the container arrives, tell us quickly and send photos of the packing, the damaged pieces and the container condition. We look at each case fairly and work with you on a solution. Good packing, honest photos and clear agreements keep claims rare.

Working with architects, builders and fabricators

Professional buyers need more than a price. Architects want samples and clear specifications. Builders want the right quantity on the right date. Fabricators want slabs that cut well and match across a project. We support all of them with real photos, written specifications, labelled packing and honest delivery dates. Many of our granite buyers are stone yards and fabricators who need matching slabs and consistent thickness.

For larger projects we can produce in batches, keep reference samples, and share progress photos. If you send a bill of quantities or drawings, we check the details and tell you early if something needs a decision, such as the size of a piece or the thickness of an edge.

Natural variation: what to expect

Granite is a natural material, so no two pieces are exactly the same. Colour, grain, veins and small marks vary from slab to slab and from lot to lot. This variation is part of the beauty of the stone, and a good design plans for it. To reduce differences on a project, buy all material from the same lot, keep slabs in bundle order and lay pieces out before fixing them.

We tell you honestly what to expect from each stone, and we send photos of the real lot. If your project needs very tight colour matching, tell us early, and we will select accordingly.

Care and maintenance

Granite is easy to look after and seldom needs more than a mild cleaner and an occasional seal on lighter, open-grained colours. As with any natural stone, use soft cloths, mild cleaners made for stone and clean up spills quickly. Avoid strong acids and harsh abrasive pads. For floors, use mats at entrances to catch grit, and protect the surface under heavy furniture.

We give simple care instructions you can share with your own customers. Good care keeps the stone looking fresh for decades, which is why natural stone is considered a long-term investment in a building.
